PATIENT SUPPORT VOLUNTEER

Description:
Having a diverse group of patients with individual backgrounds and personalities means we need a diverse group of volunteers to help meet our patient’s needs. Whether your passion is storytelling, music, hospitality, medicine, animals, or mechanics, there is a place for you on our hospice team. The primary role of the Patient Support Volunteer is to provide in-person emotional and/or practical support to patients and/or their families. Although the needs of individual patients vary, common responsibilities of a Patient Support Volunteer include:
- Conversing with patients
- Provide respite for family or caregivers
- Light housework
- Reading, watching TV, or playing games with patients
- Documenting visits in an online medical record
Location: Homes and care facilities in the Sacramento, Stockton or Yuba City areas
Qualifications:
- Mature individual, supportive of the hospice concept, comfortable with his/her own belief system
- Compassionate attitude
- Comfortability working independently while also communicating with a team
- Willingness to work with patients and family regardless of gender, religion, race, sexual preference or economic status
- Able to respect patient confidentiality – demonstrate understanding of HIPPA
- Able to maintain appropriate and professional boundaries with patients
- Able to listen and practice patience
- Basic computer skills
